Established In 1850
Merribee’s kaleidoscope of a garden features 2km of pathways that weave through some of the most diverse plantings of trees, shrubs and plants in Australia.
The botanical rooms of this 19th-century estate range from the Rose Garden, where 1,000 David Austin, Old English and Old French roses beguile with their fragrant aroma, and the formal potager garden, to the topiary, herb and medicinal gardens and the Lavender Paddock where 1,000 lavenders transport visitors to the fields of France’s Provence. The property also boasts a tennis court, an oval and a croquet lawn.
Merribee has entertained thousands of guests since it began hosting magical weddings over 14 years ago, and the estate also offers guests the opportunity to hire specifically designed sections of the property for private parties and naming ceremonies.
Guests often take the property for 3-4 nights in order that they can relax with their family and close friends and really enjoy their weddings together over a longer period of time. Alternatively guests can simply hire the property for their wedding ceremony and reception.
In 2009 we converted the old grain silo (The Silo) into romantic accommodation for the bride and groom. The Silo has four floors, including a master bedroom, and look-out floor which gives uninterrupted 360 degree views of the dairy lands which surround Merribee.
In 2012, we extended the property's nursery beds to include nearly 1,000 rose bushes. Having grown David Austin roses in the formal rose garden for 12 years, we now offer exquisite Old English, French and David Austin roses for couples marrying at Merribee and visitors.
In 2013 we converted our old shed into more function space for wedding events and in 2015, we built our Barn, with room to seat up to 140 guests inside, plus another 40 on the verandah.
In 2016 to early 2017 James Thompson re-joined our team to design the additional gardens at Merribee. In addition to restoring and reinvigorating our extensive garden rooms, James has introduced more points of interest to the garden.
Merribee is a truly exceptional 'garden estate' for visitors to enjoy, either for their weddings or events or just to view the garden. We look forward to welcoming you to Merribee in the near future.
